Charitable Organization Helping Needy Children in Africa Establishes its Offices in San Diego
Official kick-off August 19, 2010 at Bar Basic in Downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – August 3, 2010 – San Diego will be the home of Kits for Africa (www.kitsforafrica.org) a new charitable organization created to raise funds in America to support amateur athletic programs for children in Africa.

Vere Reynolds-Hale, founder of Kits for Africa, and a South African who has lived in America for 19 years, explained that his passion for sports inspired him to establish the organization to provide assistance to African children who cannot develop their natural sport talents, due to a lack of monetary resources.

Currently, the combination of significant cut backs in funding for youth development programs throughout Africa and an unemployment rate of nearly 25% in countries like South Africa is alarmingly forcing many of the underprivileged youth in poverty stricken areas of the country into a life of crime.

"Kits For Africa’s core mission is to provide support to needy children in extremely poor areas across Africa, working in association with the local provincial and national sports unions’ youth development programs," stated Reynolds-Hale. "Our primary focus is to make a tangible contribution in helping combat juvenile delinquency."

"These young people are denied their basic human rights, including food, shelter, health and education. That's why it is so important to keep African youth sport programs running," Reynolds-hale continued. "The monies raised will help fund amateur athletic leagues and will be used towards the purchase of "kits" (sports equipment and clothing) for children."

Reynolds-Hale clarified that the goal of his organization is to raise funds through a number of public events and a dedicated Website that will also feature detailed information on the organization’s overall progress and its developmental programs. Raised funds will also provide seed capital to worthy African youth leagues to help them supply the necessities required to keep youth engaged in athletics and away from the consistent pull of criminal life.

"By encouraging these children to participate in sports we hope to foster their social skills, so that they can develop a sense of achievement and shun drugs, alcohol and crime," Reynolds-Hale commented.

Kits for Africa’s official kick-off fundraising event is scheduled for August 19, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00pm in downtown San Diego at Bar Basic, 410 10th Avenue. The cocktail reception, sponsored by Kits for Africa’s partners Grubb and Ellis and American Reality Capital, will feature celebrity sport stars, a short presentation by Reynolds-Hale, raffle drawings, and prizes.
